Supported Employment

One of the community based programmes of support provided by CoAction is our Supported Employment & Work Experience Programme.  This is currently available in Bantry, Beara, Clonakilty, Dunmanway and Skibbereen.

Supported Employment is all about ability and recognising that with appropriate training and on-going support people with disabilities can access paid employment of their choice and become economically and socially active in their communities.

Benefits to the employee/individual include:

  • Integration into the local community.
  • Increased independence
  • Opportunity to earn a wage
  • Being connected/being part of the work force
  • Access to additional learning in the work place

Benefits to the employer include:

  • Supported Employment creates new opportunities for all involved: the employee, employer & other workers
  • Helps team building
  • Creates a better understanding of with the focus on abilities as opposed to disabilities.

CoAction’s Supported Employment programme is facilitated by our Supported Employment Instructors who support individuals through the process of identifying, applying for mentoring & providing ongoing support to a level where the individual is competent to carry out job to the employer’s satisfaction.

This programme would not be possible were it not for the support of local employers in our community.
